Maintaining good eyesight is more than just getting 20/20 vision. However, the depreciation of your vision is due to age, heredity – and a couple of other factors, which can include your age and how well you take care of your eyes.

So what are the things you can do for your eyes? For sa start, you can start having regular eye checkups. Try not to take your vision for granted; here are some ways to maintain a good state of your vision. Learn more tips to better care for your eyes and vision!

Eye Checkups

Everyone benefits from eye checkups – even small children. Eye checkups keep you and your doctor updated about the current state of your eyes. In addition, you can easily spot if you have an eye condition such as glaucoma. If needed, you may be given serum eye drops.

If you spot an eye condition early, then you will be able to overcome it easier. In addition, spotting a condition early sets the stage for a quick and early solution.

There are two types of eye doctors you can see: first is the opthalmologist. The ophthalmologist specializes in the eye. The ophthalmologist gives you general eye care, treats eye diseases, and performs eye surgery.

The second kind of doctor you can see is the optometrist. After college, the optometrist spends four (4) more years learning; their education is specialized. They can diagnose and treat most eye diseases. Like the opthalmologist, you can receive general eye care from the optometrist.

Eat Well

To have good eyesight, you must eat in two ways: and colorfully. A colorful diet enhances and diversifies your palate and benefits your eye health. In addition, a colorful diet will help prevent cataracts and macular degeneration, two primary contributors to vision loss.

Some notable foods for better eye health may include blueberries, corn, peppers, spinach and other colorful fruits and vegetables. In addition, the latters contain the natural pigments lutein and zeaxanthin, which help protect your eyes by filtering harmful blue light.

Don’t Smoke

There’s one hardline for protecting your eyes, which can also extend to your overall health. That one hardline, of course, is to not smoke.

Smoking exposes you to the risks of early cataracts. It is also one trigger for developing age-related macular degeneration and exacerbates the condition, should you already have it.

Wear Safety Eyewear

The harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun are a crucial contributor to the development of macular degeneration and cataracts. You should invest in safe eyewear like shades to protect yourself and your eyes from the sun.

Rest Your Eyes

Lastly, rest your eyes. As much as possible, try to take breaks from the computer. Blink occasionally; this can help you ground yourself while working. As much as possible, refrain from using the computer too much.
