Five Dream Golf Courses to Play Before You Die

If that headline sounds a little dramatic, we apologize. But when you see our selection of some of the most incredible locations for a round or two of golf, you will understand us getting a little carried away. There is nothing like playing golf in a stunning setting – and these all tick that particular box.

All the big-time players have enjoyed visiting these courses and the latest golf odds suggest that those experiences have only improved their game. You may not ever get around to visiting all of the names on our list – but do make sure to try to fit in at least one or two before you hang up the clubs for good.

St. Andrews – Fife, Scotland

Where else to start but with the home of golf? Located on the east coast of Scotland, it is one of the oldest courses in the world and hosts some of the biggest events on the golfing calendar, in particular The Open Championship. But there is more to this place than just the history.

St. Andrews is actually not one course, but a collection of seven that are open to the public – even though the club itself is private. Each course has its own attractions but it is The Old Course that you will recognize. A backdrop of the old Fife town makes this links course a unique delight.

Pebble Beach – California, USA

If you are looking for a dramatic and rugged coastline to backdrop your round then you should really consider taking a trip out to the Monterey Peninsula in California – and the Pebble Beach Links. This is another course that has seen the best of the best compete for major honors in the sport.

But the three links courses are also open to the public, so everyone can have the experience of playing a round on the course designed by legendary golf architects, Jack Neville and Douglas Grant. The US Open has regularly been held here, but you could try it out even if you’re not quite up to that standard.

Aphrodite Hills – Cyprus

We return to Europe for our next dream golf course – and the stunning Mediterranean, to be exact. This course may not have hosted some of the majors like the ones we have already mentioned, but you will not care when you are playing with this kind of scenery behind you.

Opened in 2002, the entire place has actually been revamped and upgraded in the last few years to bring it further up the rankings of bucket list golf destinations. The famous Aphrodite’s Rock is just a mile away but you will be concentrating on the beauty of the greens, rather than geological tourist traps.

Cabot Cliffs – Cape Breton, Canada

Nova Scotia may not be the first place you think of when you are planning a golfing getaway. For a chance to witness golfing greatness in person, check out the latest Masters tickets price and experience the thrill of watching top golfers compete at the iconic Masters tournament! But if you are after rugged coastline and exquisite links play, you could do a lot worse than making the trip to the Cabot Cliffs course in Cape Breton, Canada. There are 36 holes in all – and an ocean view from all of the resort’s hotel windows.

You will not want your ball to end up there, but the sandy beaches at the bottom of the cliffs at the edge of the course are just as dramatically beautiful as the greens and fairways above. Two-time Masters winner Ben Crenshaw helped to design this masterpiece that is fast becoming one of the best-loved courses in the world.

Leopard Creek Country Club – South Africa

We thought we would go a little farther afield for our last dream golf destination. The Crocodile River snakes through the resort that borders the Kruger National Park, so you may want to take your camera to record some incredible wildlife – as well as any possible holes in one.

The sunlight is just incredible in this part of the world and any stress in your life will drift away as you round the course. Do keep an eye out for the locals though – the Crocodile River was given that name for a reason.
