3 Tips for Selling Time Shares

In recent years, time shares saw a resurgence, this time with younger buyers. Industry experts report that while they may be more affordable or more appealing now than in years prior, they still come with risks.

Maybe you purchased a time share and now you’re having doubts or you’re ready to move on. Can you sell your time share?

Selling time shares isn’t always easy and the process certainly isn’t intuitive. You’ll find quite a few roadblocks in your contract–but that doesn’t mean you can’t learn how to sell a time share.

Read on as we discuss three tips that will make selling time shares easier.

1. Start With the Resort or Time Share Provider

Before you get too worried about the state of things, contact the resort or provider you purchased a time share with. While they may not offer up a solution right away, with a bit of persistence, you may find that they’re willing to help.

Some may allow you to exit the time share without selling it off. Most, however, will offer their services in finding a buyer for you.

2. Look for Your Own Buyers

What if the resort or provider won’t help you? It isn’t unheard of and it means that you’ll need to take matters into your own hands. First, make sure that you understand your contract and go about selling your time share the right way.

Next, evaluate the perks of your time share. What are your HGVC points values? What times of year can your time share be used and how many places does it grant you access to?

The better you can explain your time share and all of its perks, the more likely it is that you’ll find a willing buyer (or someone to trade time shares with).

3. Learn How to Spot Scammers

There are companies that will help you get out of your time share. This is because, as we’ve already mentioned, the process isn’t intuitive. It’s reasonable to work with the best company to sell time shares–as long as you make sure you’re not getting scammed.

Scammers tend to make false promises like guaranteeing that they can sell your timeshare or that they can sell it for full price. Scammers also reach out to people who own a time share when they aren’t in the market to sell. If a company is laying it on thick and you’re feeling a bit suspicious, trust your gut–it’s too good to be true.
