BMW 335d

The 2010 BMW 335d starts at $44,725 MSRP and comes with a 3 liter DOHC 24-valve sequential twin-turbo inline 6-cylinder diesel engine with high-pressure common rail direct injection. This engine produces 265 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque. With a standard 6 speed STEPTRONIC automatic transmission, the 335d reaches 0-60 MPH in 6.0 seconds. EPA estimated fuel efficiency is 23 MPG city and 36 MPG highway.

The 2010 335d comes with double-pivot type front suspension, 5-link rear suspension, 4 wheel ventilated disc brakes, and 17 inch alloy wheels with all-season run-flat tires. New technology includes xenon adaptive headlights with auto-leveling, ground lighting in door handles, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and dual power / heated exterior mirrors.

BMW M3 Sedan

The 2010 BMW M3 Sedan starts at $55,675 MSRP and is powered by a BMW M 4-liter 32-valve light alloy V8 engine producing 414 horsepower at 8300 RPM, and 295 lb-ft of torque at 3900 RPM. It comes with a 6 speed manual transmission and hits 0 to 60 in just 4.7 seconds. The engine features double VANOS variable valve timing and 8 individual electronically controlled throttles with M Dynamic Driving Control. Fuel efficiency is an EPA estimated 14 MPG city and 20 MPG highway.

The 2010 M3 comes with Dynamic Stability Control, variable M differential lock, M suspension, and aluminum and lightweight steel frame construction. The 18 inch alloy wheels come with a satin chrome finish and are attached to BMW M vacuum-assisted ventilated, cross-drilled, anti-lock compound disc brakes. Technologies include M Servotonic power steering and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

BMW Z4 Roadster

The 2010 BMW Z4 Roadster starts off with a $52,475 MSRP and is powered by a 3-liter DOHC 24-valve, twin-turbocharged, 300-horsepower, inline 6-cylinder, all-aluminum engine with high precision direct injection and 300 lb-ft of torque. Equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, the Z4 Roadster will reach 0-60 MPH in 5.1 seconds. Fuel economy is an EPA estimated 18 MPG city and 25 MPG highway.

The BMW Z4 Roadster features Driving Dynamics Control which includes settings for running gear, acceleration, and even steering and Adaptive M Suspension. Other technologies include aluminum tension-strut front suspension, Multi-Link rear suspension, speed-sensitive power steering, and electronic throttle valve control. The Z4 rides on 17 inch light alloy turbine-style wheels with run-flat performance tires. These are stopped by 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes with ABS, brake assist, cornering brake control, and brake force display.

Mercedes ML350

I spy sagging brake lines. Is this the kind of quality you’d expect from Mercedes? It’s the kind of quality we saw at the 2009 San Francisco International Auto Show. The lines were sagging on an ML350 SUV. Let me rewrite that: ML 350 SUV. Who drives these SUV’s? Families drive SUV’s. Are families really going to be hitting roads with sagging lines exposed to debris on the road? We thought we’d question a Mercedes representative at the show about this issue, but there were no company representatives present. Hmmm – not something you’d expect from Mercedes.

Ford F-150 SVT Raptor

Priced at just under $40,000, the 2010 Ford F-150 Raptor is a Baja race truck out of the box. Revving a 5.4 or 6.2 liter engine, rolling on 315/70-17 tires, and absorbing the trails with Fox Racing Shox, the Raptor has crossed the Baja and is now being offered at Ford dealerships.

The new 2010 Audi R8 is powered by a 525 horsepower 5.2L v10 with FSI, and a 6 speed manual transmission with quattro. The 0-60 MPH time is 3.7 seconds. Fuel economy is 12 MPG city, 20 MPG highway, or 15 combined. Standard wheels are 19 inch, ten spoke Y-design forged alloy wheels, with 235/35 front and 295/30 rear summer performance tires. 8 piston front and 4 piston rear brakes are included, as well as full LED headlights and power folding, heated, auto-dimming exterior mirrors. The base MSRP for the 2010 Audi R8 is $146,000. The price as configured in this particular R8 is $159,800. These photos were taken December 2009 at the San Francisco International Auto Show.
